I care about people. On a bigger, social level I know everyone has the right to access education on meditation and mental health care solutions.

As a young adult I followed health fads, diets and exercise obsessively, trying to fix my anxiety and depression. I was trying to make those thoughts, which had started as a child and were getting more and more debilitating as a young adult, disappear.

I needed to stop searching for a fix. I had to accept that there will always be triggers and bad days, but I could be empowered by learning how to navigate through them. At the time that was inconceivable.

One day something clicked. I couldn’t do this alone, or with people that were as ill as me and didn’t have working solutions. I began to seek help, build a support network, a community, and ways and systems to create a daily practice and keep me accountable. It took me years to build and took real courage and determination, but I didn’t want to stay in the Groundhog Day a doctor had predicted.

This led me to shaping my wellbeing work and learning how to be an activist, mentor and meditation and mindfulness coach. I learnt how to take out into the world what I had learnt and what works for me. What once seemed like a prison of mental health problems is now a beautiful gift that allows me to feel blessed and of service in the world.

This was the foundation of Sunshine Brain. My business and daily work is now teaching people meditation and mindfulness techniques to help support their mental health and to use my knowledge and skills to help people in wider society. Whether as a preventive (for life-crucial skills), in schools (teaching a new generation), online as a community (Sunshine Brain) or one-to-one with clients wanting new beginnings, during pregnancy and birth, with anxiety or mental health challenges, or as a way of dealing with life’s stresses, or at speaking engagements where I meet so many that have been affected by mental health (if not personally, then through family, friends, or work colleagues), I share what I have learnt.

I am passionate about my work and grateful for the connections it brings me.

Bio

Nia has been working in the wellbeing sector since 2008. She is qualified in many types of bodywork, including holistic massage, reflexology, aromatherapy and Thai yoga massage, and as a meditation and mindfulness coach.

Nia is a mental health activist and meditation educator in London, UK. She teaches meditation and mindfulness to clients on a one-to-one basis, online via Sunshine Brain and in schools and charities in London.

She regularly teaches meditation techniques to women for pregnancy and birth and works with the lovely babies post-birth.

Before having her son Charlie in 2002, Nia’s was as a bad-ass make-up artist. So, if your eyeliner needs fixing, she can help with that.

FAQS

DO I NEED TO BE ON FACEBOOK?

You can complete the course without Facebook, but we encourage everyone to use the group as there is the much needed support and motivation here (although this is provided through the course videos too). Guidance for how to create a Facebook account to use the group and presentation is provided and you can always ask for extra help to do it.

HOW DO I ACCESS THE VIDEOS?

When you invest in Sunshine Brain, you will receive a username and password to log into the course anytime you want.

DO I HAVE TO START THE COURSE ON THE DUE DATE?

You can start the course at any time, but we will officially start at dates across the year so those who want to can complete the three weeks together and get maximum benefit from the Facebook Group support.

HOW LONG TO I GET TO COMPLETE THE COURSE?

You have life long membership so you can take as long as you wish.

WILL I BE ABLE TO ASK QUESTIONS?

Yes. We love questions. Ask them in the Facebook Group.

I AM ON MEDICATION/UNDER DOCTOR FOR MY MENTAL HEALTH

If you are on medication or under doctor’s supervision for mental health issues, we advise you to check with your doctor that they support you meditating. NHS England now runs meditation and mindfulness courses for mental health patients.

CAN I DO THIS WITH MY KIDS?

Yes, children love meditation and mindfulness. It is so beneficial for them and a lovely thing to do as a family.

CAN I PRINT OFF WORKBOOK?

Yes the PDFs and workbook are online, but you can print them off if you prefer.

I HAVE PURCHASED MEDITATION AUDIO FILES/COURSES BEFORE. WHY WILL THIS WORK?

The beauty of the Sunshine Brain is the support and motivation and workbooks that help you formulate a daily routine and schedule that works for you. If you use all the tools provided and follow the course throughly you will have a daily meditation programme you can use forever.

I HAVE NEVER MEDITATED BEFORE/CAN’T SIT STILL. CAN I DO IT?

Yes. This course works for total newbies or peeps that have given it a go but can’t nail down that regular routine. I designed the course for people who have struggled when trying to practice alone. There’s no need to sit still, especially not if you have ants in your pants!

WHY IS IT ONLINE

I have worked in the wellbeing field since 2008 on a 1-1 client basis. Over half my clients have been with me since then on a weekly basis. Creating a online community means I can help many more people which is my mission in life. Plus online is so much fun. You get to connect with peeps from all over the world.
